Portrait of Chang Guo

About Chang

Chang brings more than 10 years of playing experience and over 5 years of coaching experience, along with a strong passion for athlete development and helping players reach their full potential.

Chang attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Economics and Business and competed in both indoor and sand volleyball intramurals. He later earned a degree in Statistics and Data Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he played outside hitter for the university’s Club Volleyball A Team.

Throughout his coaching career, Chang has worked with a variety of programs across Texas, including San Antonio Force Volleyball, Austin Junior Volleyball, West Austin Volleyball, and Volleyworld. His experience includes coaching camps, clinics, positionals, player evaluations, private lessons, and both regional and select club teams. He has worked with athletes of all ages and skill levels, helping them build confidence, improve their technical skills, and develop a deeper understanding of the game.

In addition to his club coaching experience, Chang worked with the University of Texas Volleyball program during its 2022 and 2023 NCAA National Championship seasons as a practice player, program assistant, and camp coach. He has also had the opportunity to learn from and train under some of the most respected coaches in the sport, including Erik Sullivan, Jerritt Elliott, and David Hunt.

Chang’s coaching philosophy centers around providing every athlete with the training, support, and development they need to succeed at a high level. He is passionate about helping players build leadership, communication, teamwork, resilience, and a lifelong love for the game. Through positive culture, hard work, and accountability, he strives to create an environment where athletes are empowered to grow both as volleyball players and as individuals.

Outside of volleyball, Chang is an accomplished violinist who began playing in fifth grade. Fun fact: he once performed the National Anthem on the court at an NBA game for the San Antonio Spurs!

Chang is excited to join the DS Elite family and looks forward to helping lead 15 Ruby to a successful season both on and off the court.
